In this edition of the CRAFT Video, I'll show you how to make a custom fabric bike seat cover. You might make one if your bike seat is in disrepair, needs protection from rain, or, if you're like me, you want to cover up your nice saddle to deter potential thieves from lifting your seat while your bike is locked up outside. blog.craftzine.com

what about padding added for comfort for us grannys, lol!! no but seriously
ima build a lowrider bike in welding this should help with my seat problem. ima use the fabric from an “old” bridgestone backpack. hopefully ill have enuf fabric.
@InweTaralom id find that quite funny
@paukenkiger i don’t know how your butt smells but i have put covers on all my bike seats and none of them smell bad. maybe i’m doing something wrong, or maybe i bathe more often than you?
Looks really good, but I don’t have a sewing machine, so my stitching would bunch up the fabric.
mother fuckers will steal ANY bike seat. i’ve had more 20$ seats stolen than 120$ ones. chaining up the saddle by the rails is your best bet.
I’m going to UC Davis so this is perfect for me.
@TehDuffs yah, NYC, bike theft capitol of the nation, second to only maybe SF.
@6devilishangel6 gorilla glue? shoe glue?
@TrentR42 Thanks!
@leloodallasmultipass class indeed! =] Good tips, thanks!
1. because this is MAKE =]
2. My /bike/ is branded, but it’s locked to a pole. My seat isn’t locked, so this “hides” it, so to speak.
@paukenkiger 1. it’s actually leather, and the drawstring makes it really tight so it doesn’t slide. 2. Just throw it in the washing machine. 3. It’s to deter someone from stealing my name brand seat off of my parked and locked bike. 4. show me yours! Mine’s a 2009 Fuji track with 650 wheels, nothing to scoff at and a great ride around town.
@thunder22700 well, thieves are looking for resale value, rarely looking to nick parts for their own bikes!
@029jessica Hah, thanks, but the footage is sped up during the sewing machine section! =]
@makemagazine Cool, now Ima steal your bike because I know what brand it is.
Nice project, turned out perfect too!
Thanks for this! I don’t do much sewing, and I thought this project was going to be too simple to learn from, but I picked up some good tips after all.
Less likely to get stolen WTF?
well done
I don’t sew or do crafts and I don’t own a bike, I really don’t know why I clicked this video or for that matter watched the whole thing, but i have to say this chick is a BAMF on the sewing machine.
soo to prevent your bike from being stolen because of what kind it is…you put a really cool and flashy bike seat cover… awesome
@makemagazine cool i got a 1987 robinson racing gt bmx bike
Hey that’s awesome, I love DIY things like this. The seat looks great!
Stop hating the ladie. I’m a guy and I think it’s pretty cool. And I see she has other projects relating to bikes. You know you could get some thick fabric like a thick pair of black jeans. Use her pattern technique and I think they have a spray on silk paint (looks like silk screening) and make templates of the names of your favorite bands and then when done, finish it off with a fabric water repellent spray. If you think that’s gay then suck an AIDS infected one.
