The “All-in-one” wheel will be popular in rather utilitarian cars, family sedans and commuter boxes for example, where it doesn’t have to do much and is cheap. But the geometric options and requirements for racing, off-roading, and such will make that system very limited in use. Call me a Luddite, but I can’t see this whole system being used any time soon.

Take an easy bike ride with your sweetie, now that the first electric tandem bicycle has been announced. Pedego, maker of attractively designed electric bikes, has just announced their tandem model. It will be on display September 23 to 25 at the Interbike International Bicycle Expo in Las Vegas.
The tandem e-bike features a beach cruiser design with two cushioned seats, relaxed handlebars, and a rear motor. It’s built with a parallel drive system that includes a 750-watt motor and a 48-volt lithium manganese battery. The company says the battery is good for 15,000 miles and costs less than 10 cents to recharge.
Pedego hasn’t announced a firm ship date, but says the tandem will be available for the holiday season. It will sell for approximately $2,300.
Well, here is what I know about your chosen models. I own a 2002 Volusia (800), now sold as the C50. Purchased it in 03 and clocked a little over 18,000 miles on it. Very nice bike, easy to ride decent handling below 65 mph. Above that on the superslab it turns a little white knuckle. Manageable, but still exciting. One of the things I do not like about it is that it has plastic fenders. I replaced it with a 2005 Kawasaki Nomad in 2006.
I am not personally familiar with the Kawasaki 900, but from what I can see of the bike it has a leg up on the Volusia. It has a rear disk brake which is a plus. It has steel fenders, a belt drive and a slightly larger engine which I think would help on the highway.
I have a friend that has a Yamaha 1100. It's a nice bike, air/oil cooled. According to him the power delivery is not far from that of my Volusia. I personally don't like the way the shaft drive looks.
The winner in my book for the money is the Kawasaki 900.
Absolutly. If you want to sound electric, get an electric. you are going to run into a lot of crazy noise if you try to go that way and you still wont sound electric even if you can clean it up.
if the argument is to reduce greenhouse gases, and save the planet, this is obviously not the answer. where do they think electricity comes from?
