Have you ridden a Comfort Bike?

I have an old back injury that makes it very painful to ride a bicycle if I am bent over the handlebars, so I can no longer ride my mountain bike. Someone told me about comfort bikes. I have researched them and I understand that they allow you to sit in a more upright position, but I would like to hear comments from anyone that has one or has ridden one for a greater distance than around the block. I cannot find one in any of the bike shops in my town, so I cannot try one out. I would like some feedback from people before I invest in buying one and having it shipped to me. Thank you.

I have not ridden one, but it wouldn’t be necessary to build a special bike for your circumstance. A standard bike can be outfitted with parts that can get you completely upright-change to a frame with a shorter top tube, get a stem (gooseneck) that has a lot of rise, add some handle bars that also rise and are angled back towards you (about a 15 degree rake) and get the seat positioned correctly and you are in business. pretty comfy!
I agree with eyebum. There are a lot of changes that you can do to a bike to make it fit you better. Good luck.
i have, since you have had a back injury, let me tell you that a comfort bike has wider tires, hence it takes more energy to go from point a to point b, check out the new trek women specific design bikes, i got my pilot 3 months ago and i haven’t had an ache or pain since. My best friend has a comfort bike and hates it, its like trying to push an easy chair across a carpet.
Have you considered getting a recumbent bike? Yeah, they’re a bit more expensive than other bikes, but they’re as comfortable as your living room couch, and it feels great riding down the road knowing that everybody’s loving your bike.
