Comfort bike for riding on dirt trails, street hills.?

Hi I'm looking for a comfort bike to ride dirt trails in our parks and on the street too up and down hills. I tried Schwinn mountain bikes but found comfort bikes to be more comfortable. Which brand or bike is recommended for multi use? I heard about Raleigh, Schwinn and Specialized. My budget is the lower $300s or under. (Also, I'm only 5'2 and need a small or medium frame so Walmart and Target are out as they only carry large frame bikes).
