Sounds like it has a musty or mildewy smell to it. Have you checked for spots of mold? I'm not sure what you can do, though I would bet it might help to let it air outside when it is sunny and warm. If you can, take the drawers out and set them out in the sun. I'm not a febreeze fan, but if the airing out doesn't help, you might try that….worst case you might need to sand the inside of them and seal them with some polyurethane and forego the cedar scent.

yes bristlenose is a good idea, try to get an albino one they are fairly common and quite attractive, I keep 2 in my 33, they are about 5 yrs old and about 15cm
they are a bit disruptive if they don't have a cave and they are picky about where they stay
I've got my hubby a wind up torch, handkerchiefs, socks, a cute little pocket screwdriver set (will last about two weeks before he loses it!), Naughty Christmas boxers, a solar powered micro racer( toy car) and a plug and play games Atari console for in the car. I keep an eye out all year long for little techno gadget stocking stuffers.
Apart from the games console, he'll have misplaced everything by the time his birthday rolls around (February)!
